DEDHAM CIVIC PRIDE BRIGHTENS UP DEDHAM SQUARE IN TIME FOR FARMERS’ MARKET
June 23, 2009
PRESS RELEASE
This month Dedham Civic Pride installed three seven-foot planters and planted the new medium strip opposite the Permit Parking Lot in Dedham Square. This project is the latest enhancement to Dedham Square by Dedham Civic Pride and was completed in time for the Farmer’s Market held each Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot. As part of its ongoing beautification program, Dedham Civic Pride installs wrought iron barrels and benches, provides seasonal banners, and maintains seasonal “Pots” and “Blooms” in Dedham’s Squares.
Dedham Civic pride thanks its ”Business of the Month”--Isaac Blair & Co., Inc., Division of The Marr Companies for the beautiful new planters at the parking lot in Dedham Square. Isaac Blair & Co. is a long time supporter of Dedham Civic Pride. Each year the company stores and protects DCPs planters during the winter, providing an invaluable service to this all-volunteer nonprofit committee.

DEDHAM CIVIC PRIDE ANNOUNCES STREET CLOCK FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN
Amy Black, Chair of Dedham Civic Pride, announced a town wide fundraising campaign to underwrite the installation of a 16 foot, four faced, Howard Replica/Seth Thomas Verdin Street Clock at the corner of High and Harris Streets in Dedham Square.
American "street" clocks or "post" clocks first appeared in the eastern United States about 1880. They were used for advertisement and adapted from the popular clocks of Victorian England. The street clock, designed to stand out against crowded buildings and signage, was frequently placed in front of train stations, banks, and other public locations.
Today, the nostalgic clock stands for a respected way of life in America. It is a symbol of our pride in workmanship, our stability, and our sense of community. Dedhams clock will display "Town of Dedham" and will symbolize Dedhams civic pride.
For a donation of $300 or more, 104 individuals, families, and businesses will have an inscription on the base of the clock. Donors may elect to receive a miniature replica clock in appreciation for their generosity to Dedham. Each handcrafted pewter miniature has four watch movements and is an exact replica of the Dedham Clock. It includes the town name and a special dedication plaque.
Dedham's Economic Development Officer Karen O'Connell said "We are proud to announce today that Dedham Civic Pride will be installing a Verdin street clock at the corner of High and Harris Streets upon the completion of the Route One Bridge project scheduled for this year.
For more information on how to participate and to learn more of the project please visit our website www.dedhamcivicpride.org or feel free call Amy Black at 781-727-9054.

"I'm proud to participate in the town I love. The project I find most rewarding is our annual town wide clean up and beautification of Mother Brook. It makes me feel good to know that our efforts now, will support future generations."
